Not Your Average Girl!

I know that it's hard to pin point what an average girl looks like, but I do know that I am definitely not her. To say that there can be an average girl is like saying there is a normal family. I believe we can all agree that this is not true. My view of me is quite biased yet fair, if I say so myself. Only God knows me better than I know myself and we're in constant communication. What makes me your UNaverage girl is fairly common unmongst young adult women of color (if we're honest with ourselves).

1) Even at my young age (24) I have a large desire to be married and have children and I have never denied it.

2) A part of me has always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom with a vanload of kids and a daisy printed, personalized apron.

3) I never wanted to or intend to spend the rest of my working life clocking in to make my boss rich.

4) With women getting married and having children later in their lives, I want to have a family while I'm still hot and able to enjoy my children's hyperness.

5) I don't think being a housewife sets us back 50 years, but will admit if it did, I would not be against the prayer in schools, decrease in crime rates and shortage of teen pregnancies.

These are only a few things that I believe set me apart from the ideal 21st century woman, but I'm in preparation to become a proverbs 31 woman....so who cares?

My desires to be present in the fragile years of my kid's childhoods and cook dinner most nights doesn't mean that I can't be a business owner or strong woman. However, it does mean that I can't be an independent woman or 9-5 employee. That's okay with me. It doesn't have to be you and if you disagree, that's okay with me too.

While I'm single and searching (for purpose, not a man), I am preparing to be just that. What is that you ask? It's an urban housewife and business owner, a cookie baker and moneymaker, a Michelle Obama and Martha Stewart. In all of this, I understand that balance is key. You say this is impossible, but nothing is impossible for my God! The word says that He will fulfill the desires of my heart and I have made it a point to make sure that my desires were His. So I am good to go...

My dare to all of you, take this journey with me!

This blog is created with you in mind whether you want to be a homemaker or are disgusted by the thought of wearing an apron. Due to the stigma of choosing to be a housewife as a career, you could call this blog a guilty pleasure. Prayerfully, it will shine a light on this lost art form with a bountiful of recipes, personal desires, statistics and tips. I hope to create resources to do away with the negative view we as a culture have of women who choose to put their families first (remember you are included in that family too), and encourage women of color (more specifically) to indulge in the glamorous life of an urban housewife!

God Bless!
